Overview
Oakland voters have shown overwhelming support for the museum’s future by passing Measure G, which designates $23.6 million in public funds for museum improvements. To advance this transformation, the museum is launching a private philanthropic campaign.
This transformation will enable the Oakland Museum of California to:
- Better reflect California’s diversity – human and environmental – through updated installations and the museum’s rich collections.
- Draw deeper connections between California’s natural environment, multicultural history, and dynamic art.
- Emphasize the personal stories of Californians — artists, immigrants, prospectors, explorers, earthquake survivors, and other members of our multicultural society.
- Attract and engage new audiences through innovative, interactive methods and dedicated education spaces.
- Present the museum’s broad collections in new ways, including in expanded galleries and new gallery environments.
- Improve the visitor’s experience by providing a “front door” to the museum building, covered gathering areas, and disabled visitor access.
