California is gorgeous. No other state has our beaches, our redwoods, our mountains, our weather - and it just keeps going! And I love how the people here are such an eclectic mix: artists, hipsters, hippies, gutter punks, revolutionaries... You can be anyone in this state!

I've worked at the Oakland Museum of California since 2001. I love that this building was designed to be a welcoming community space, not a cold marble box. And with programs like Lunar New Year and Days of the Dead, we work hand in hand with community members to make incredible experiences happen. In all the years I've worked here, I've heard it said again and again that the Museum has the potential to be so much more - to truly be a world-class institution serving local communities in innovative and meaningful ways. With this project, we're making it happen - and I'm so glad to be a part of it.
