With the start of a new year, we are excited to begin gallery renovation work. Staff members have begun the six-month process of carefully removing and packing artworks and artifacts from the Art and History Galleries. During the gallery construction, works will be stored safely in the new California Collections and Research Center (CCRC).

Art preparators and registrars started the de-installation process by re-packing the Nash Collection. From this recent gift of 275 artworks, a selection of 20 artworks have been on display at the front of the gallery. The de-installation process is moving smoothly, as staff members pack these artworks back into the crates originally created for the move from the Nash house to the museum in early August. As the work continues, new crates will be built for other pieces, such as the ceramics and small sculptures, as well as protective travel frames for paintings.

Staff members in the History Department have built a protective wall within the gallery to allow access to the departmental offices during the construction. Preparators have begun creating travel cases to protect items for the move to the CCRC.
