It’s official – the transformation has hit the street at the Oakland Museum of California. Green fences have closed off the Oak Street Museum entrance, and the 12th Street garage entrance – but the Museum (and garage) are still open, and there’s plenty to see and do. Just for you, contractors have scheduled the most noisy, dusty activities for Mondays and Tuesdays when the Museum is closed.

Behind the green fence, changes are taking place everywhere. Cahill Contractors have removed all plants from the Oak Street terrace, and are now loading out dirt and debris. Soon, they will begin removing cement planters to create a new visitor entry and ADA access ramp. Along the central stairway, Cahill's crews have taken down the blue rain awnings and emptied out the planters.

Meanwhile, in the Art and History Galleries, crews continue demolition work. In addition to removing interior walls, Cahill is removing selected sections of concrete from the Art Gallery to create over 4,000 square feet of new, high-ceiling gallery space. Soon, Cahill will build steel frames enclose the new exhibition space.
